The ILO's framework of fundamental principles and rights at work changed in 2022, and the exam tests the change itself: what was added, which instruments carried it, and what the counts were before and after.
What happened in June 2022
At its 110th Session in June 2022, the International Labour Conference decided to include a safe and healthy working environment in the framework of fundamental principles and rights at work, making it the fifth category.
A living wage, paid parental leave and freedom of movement for migrant workers are labor topics the ILO addresses elsewhere. None of them was the subject added in 2022.
The two conventions designated fundamental
- Convention No. 155 (1981), the Occupational Safety and Health Convention.
- Convention No. 187 (2006), the Promotional Framework for Occupational Safety and Health Convention.
The count
Designating those two brought the fundamental conventions from eight to ten. Eight before, ten after.
- Not six to eight, not ten to twelve, not four to eight. Each of those misstates the starting count, the ending count, or both.
The conventions already in the set
These are the tempting wrong answers to "which were designated in 2022," because they were fundamental before 2022:
- Nos. 87 and 98 on freedom of association and collective bargaining.
- Nos. 138 and 182 on child labour.
- Nos. 100 and 111 on discrimination.
